Since it a week 'til we vote in a new president for the United States of America, and it has been on my mind for sometime now, I thought I would throw out there some things that would help you want to vote correctly!
It's been weird since this is the first election that I have really gotten into since I was 11! Yeah, I did say 11! I remember when it was between clinton and bush that first year. I was in TX and my friend and I were watching the debates. I was so frustrated that Clinton won!
But now that it has been 16 years and so many things have changed, I have gotten more into politics.
I thought I would post up here some emails that I have a been getting lately!
I thought that you might enjoy them and help you with making a decision.
Well I got this email from a friend the other day. It's an experiment that a former student had done to show what Obama's plan would do.
From a former student:
This is from my co worker's mom who did this last night. A gutsy woman - just my type!!
In a local restaurant my server had on a "Obama 08" tie, again I laughed as he had given away his political preference--just imagine the coincidence.
When the bill came I decided not to tip the server and explained to him that I was exploring the Obama redistribution of wealth concept. He stood there in disbelief while I told him that I was going to redistribute his tip to someone who I deemed more in need--the homeless guy outside. The server angrily stormed from my sight.
I went outside, gave the homeless guy $10 and told him to thank the server inside as I've decided he could use the money more. The homeless guy was grateful.
At the end of my rather unscientific redistribution experiment I realized the homeless guy was grateful for the money he did not earn, but the waiter was pretty angry that I gave away the money he did earn even though the actual recipient needed the money more.
I guess redistribution of wealth is an easier thing to swallow in concept than in practical application
I thought that was very interesting and I went on to wonder if that waiter changed his mind or decided to look into the policies that Obama is saying is going to happen.
This was an email that was passed around the office from the boss!
It gives us an example of Our Tax System
Bar Stool Economics
Suppose that everyday, ten men go out for beer and the bill for all ten comes to $100. If they paid their bill the way we pay our taxes, it would go somehting like this:
The 1st four men (the poorest) would pay nothing.
The 5th wouls pay $1
The 6th would pay $3
The 7th would pay $7
The 8th would pay $12
The 9th would pay $18
The 10th man (the richest) would pay $59.
So that's what they decided to do.
THe ten men drank in the bar everyday and seemed quite happy with the arrangement, unitl one day, the owner threw them a curve. 'Since you are all good customers,' he said, 'I', going to reduce the cost of your daily beer by $20.' Drinks for the ten now cost just $80.
The group still wanted to pay their bill the way we pay our taxes so the first four men were unaffected. THey would still drink for free.
But what about the outher six men- the paying customers? How could they divide the $20 windfall so that everyone woul get his 'fair share?'
THey realized that $20 divided by 6 is $3.33. But if they subtracted that from everybody's share, then the fifth man and the sixth man would each end up being paid to drink his beer.
So, the bar owner suggested that it would be fair to reduce eache man'ts bill by roughly the same amount, and he proceeded to work out the amounts each should pay.
And so:
The 5th man, like the first four, now paid nothing (100% savings.)
The 6th now paid $2 instead of $3 (33% Savings.)
The 7th now paid $5 instead of $7 (28% savings.)
The 8th now paid $9 instead of $12 (25% savings.)
The 9th now paid $14 instead of $18 (22% savings.)
The 10th now paid $49 insted of $59 (16%savings.)
Each of the six ws better off than before. And the first four continued to drink for free. but once outside the restaurant, the men began to compare their savings.
'I only got a dollar our othe $20,' declared the sixth man. Hepointed to the tenth man, 'but he got $10!'
"yeah, that's right,' exclaimed the fifth man. 'I only saved a dollar, too. It's unfair that he got ten times more than I got' "that's true!!' shouted the seventh man. 'Why should he get $10 back when I got only two? The wealthy get all the breaks!'
'Wait a minute,' yelled the first four men in unison. 'We didn't get anything at all. The system exploits the poor!'
The nine men surrounded the tenth and beat himup.
The next night the tenth man didn't shouw up for drinks so the nine sat down and had beers without him. But when it can time to pay the bill, they discovered something important. THey didn't have enough maony between all of them for even half the bill!
And that, ladies and gentlemen, journalist and college professors, is how our tax system works. The people who pay the highest taxes get the most benefit from a tax reduction. Tax them too much, attack the wealthy, and theyt just may not show up anymore. In fact, they might start drinking overseas where the atmosphere is somewhat friendlier.

For those who understand, no explanation is needed.
For those who don't understand, no explanations is possible.
So you see here we have it!
It's important to look at the big picture and see what will really happen if we make changes without seeing what's on the other side!
